Our MeRT treatment for autism relies on targeted rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation). Many studies show the effectiveness of rTMS for autism treatment. Here are four of the most recent:

A Father Tells His MeRT Story
In the third week, something happened. The family was driving around sight-seeing when they realized that they were getting lost in the California desert. Mary and Frank began to argue, and right in the midst of it, the moment they had waited six years for finally came. “I remember he said a seven-word sentence basically to the effect of ‘I want you two to stop fighting.’ And it shocked me so much that I almost stopped breathing,” Frank recounts. “I looked at my wife and said ‘Do you realize what just happened? He just said a seven-word sentence.’ I had tears in my eyes, and I was happy at the same time. He was so upset that it pushed these words through.”
From there, Frankie’s progress snowballed. They returned home after only a month, but the difference between the child who arrived in California and the one who left was striking. They had taken a video of Frankie on the plane when they started the journey, “and he’s just making baby babble,” Frank says.
“We have another video of him on the plane coming back. And he looks out the window and says, ‘Goodbye California, see you soon.’ This was a nonverbal kid, 30 days earlier. And his feet are flat on the ground.”
Doctors said Frankie would continue to improve even without regular MeRT albeit a bit slower. Today, he is 11 years old, verbal, and attends a public school. He tells Frank stories about times when he wanted to speak but couldn’t.

Understanding MeRT Treatment for Your Child: A Step-by-Step Guide
If you’re considering MeRT for your child but have questions, begin with a simple phone consultation. Contact our New Patient Coordinator for an informative, no-commitment discussion about MeRT. Step 1
Testing and Consultation
First Appointment – Testing:
- During the initial appointment, our neurotechnician conducts two non-invasive, painless tests: a quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG).
- Our doctor and scientific team will then analyze these test results and create a tailored treatment plan based on your child’s unique brainwave patterns.
Second Appointment – Detailed Consultation:
- Following the tests, you’ll have a one-on-one meeting with a clinician, either in person or virtually.
- The clinician will explain the test results, showing the specific brain activities related to your child’s symptoms.
- You’re encouraged to ask as many questions as you need for a complete understanding.
- By the end of this consultation, you and the clinician will determine if your child is suitable for MeRT treatment.
Step 2
Treatment Period
Commencing Treatment:
- The treatment period typically spans 6 weeks, with daily sessions (Monday to Friday) in two-week blocks.
- Each session, lasting about 35-45 minutes, involves your child sitting comfortably while a neurotechnician administers targeted TMS using a hand-held magnet near the scalp.
- During treatment, magnetic impulses are delivered for 6-8 seconds per minute. This may cause a mild tapping sensation, but it is not at all uncomfortable.
Step 3
Monitoring and Follow-up
Ongoing Assessment:
- After every two-week treatment cycle, we conduct a new qEEG to compare with the baseline and assess improvements.
- Adjustments to the treatment might be made based on these findings.
- During this ongoing treatment, you will have regular meetings with your clinician to discuss your child’s progress.
Final Evaluation:
- At the end of a 6-week treatment period, we perform another qEEG to assess overall progress.
- Based on this evaluation, we can determine whether treatment has been sufficient or if additional sessions are recommended.
